Description

When you arrive at Angell Gjestegård, you will be welcomed by the hosts before we gather around the fire in our traditional Sami lavvo. Here we serve a hot, homemade stew based on local ingredients, together with coffee cooked over an open fire while we hear the cold winter howling outside the sheltered lavvu. We also serve biscuits with the coffee, and enjoy this on warm, soft sheepskins. As we eat, we share stories about life in the north – about nature, people, history and traditions that have shaped the region. Here you will also meet the shaman Tone, who conveys Sami stories and traditions through storytelling and drumming ceremonies. This is a calm and atmospheric experience that gives an insight into an important part of Northern Norway's cultural heritage. After the ceremony, there is plenty of time to enjoy the silence around the fire, ask questions and take in the special atmosphere that only a  northern Norwegian summer can provide.

After the ceremony, we go out into the winter darkness and look for the Northern Lights. When the conditions are right, you can experience dancing across the yard and the lavvu – an experience many describe as one of life's most beautiful natural phenomena. While we are there, there is plenty of time to enjoy the silence and the very special atmosphere that only a northern Norwegian winter evening can provide.

Afterwards, you get to say hello to the animals that live on the farm. Meet the friendly, large and majestic horses, cuddle with the dogs and visit the chickens and rabbits. Most of the stables are more than happy to say yes to a little cuddle or a carrot. Most of the animals really appreciate a little attention – and maybe a carrot. If the hens have been good that day, you may even find a freshly laid egg.
