Description

Narvik Museum takes you into the history of the city, the railway and the industry that has shaped Narvik over more than a hundred years. Here you get an insight into the construction of the Ofot Line, the ore transport on rails, the shipment of iron ore and the development of Narvik as an industrial city and port city. The exhibitions convey history through slideshows, models, films and a "train ride" in an authentic motor car. The museum also has its own exhibition about the electrification of the Ofot Railway, as well as changing walking and art exhibitions throughout the year. The museum is located in NSB's former administration building, a monumental brick building from 1902 at the foot of Fagernesfjellet. From the museum park, the view opens up to the harbour, LKAB's shipping facilities and the city below, a landscape where Narvik's industrial history is still clearly present. On the ground floor you will find the museum shop, with locally produced goods, souvenirs, yearbooks and other local history literature.
