Whether you're traversing the region, stopping at a viewpoint, hiking in the mountains, or spending the day by the water, good toilet habits help keep your surroundings clean and enjoyable for everyone.

Public toilets can be found in several places in the region, but not everywhere. Some are located at picnic areas and bathing areas, others at transport hubs, shopping centres or hiking destinations. Availability and opening hours may vary depending on the season, weather, maintenance and who operates the toilet.

Use the toilets where they are available, dispose of waste in the right container and take what you have with you. In this way, we show consideration for nature, local communities and those who come after us.

No toilet nearby?

In a region with fjords, mountains, long stretches of road and large natural areas, it is not possible to have toilets everywhere. If you have to do your business outside, do it in a way that leaves as little trace as possible.

Walk well away from paths, picnic areas, tent sites, swimming areas and water sources. Find a discreet spot, dig a small hole where possible, and cover well afterwards. It is preferable to bring used toilet paper home in a separate bag. Wet wipes, pads, tampons and other waste should always be taken back and disposed of in the trash.

This is a simple part of traveling responsibly in northern Norwegian nature. It keeps the landscape clean, protects wildlife, and makes the experience better for residents and visitors alike.
