Health care
If you need health care during your stay in the Narvik region, there are emergency rooms, hospitals, dental health services and pharmacies in the region. Here you will find a simple overview of where to turn.
The Narvik region consists of the municipalities of Narvik, Evenes, Lavangen and Gratangen. Whether you are traveling through the fjord landscape, heading to the mountains or visiting the villages in the region, it is good to know where you can get help if something happens.
In the event of life-threatening illness, serious injury or life-threatening situations, you should always call 113. This applies, for example, to serious accidents, breathing difficulties, chest pain, acute unconsciousness or other situations where it is urgent.
If you are ill, injured or unsure whether you need medical help, you can call the emergency room on 116 117 for advice and guidance. The number is valid throughout Norway and connects you to the nearest emergency room.
In Narvik, the emergency room is located at UNN Narvik, with its own entrance marked "Reception emergency room" behind the hospital. The out-of-hours clinic is open Monday–Friday from 3.30 p.m., and open around the clock on weekends and public holidays. UNN Narvik receives patients in need of urgent help via the emergency department or emergency room, depending on the situation and needs.
Need for doctors in the municipalities
In Norway, all residents are affiliated with a GP where they live. GPs do not offer drop-in or consultations to patients who are not on their patient list. If you are travelling in Norway or visiting the country from abroad and need medical help, you must contact the municipal out-of-hours clinic.
