Description

The coral beach on Storøya is one of the most distinctive bathing spots in the Narvik region. The beaches consist of light fragments of calcareous algae and corals that have washed up on land, and the water above the corals takes on a clear blue-green colour that stands out clearly from the darker fjord landscape many people associate with the northern Norwegian coast. When you get down to the beach, the landscape opens up to small islets and the Efjord. The surrounding mountains give the place a raw and clear setting, while the clear water makes the bathing experience exceptionally tempting, at least before you go in. The water is as fresh as it gets in Northern Norway, and even on hot summer days, you should expect a cool bath. The summer months of July and August are the main season for swimming here. This is the period when the temperature is most suitable for longer stays in the water without a wetsuit. On land, parking, toilets, barbecue areas and trash cans make the place convenient for a longer break, especially for travelers along the E6 between Narvik and Bodø. The area around Storøya has small islets and islands where herons, gulls and other seabirds nest. Show consideration for the bird life and nature when you travel along the beach zone and out on the islets.

Efjord ligger langs E6, cirka én time sør for Narvik med bil. Området passer godt som stopp for reisende på E6 mellom Narvik og Bodø. Offentlig transport er ikke tilgjengelig.

Additional information

The water is cool, even in summer. July and August are the main season for swimming. Bathing is at your own risk. The beach is located about 300 meters from the parking area via a path in varied forest terrain and over rocks. The area is suitable for children and dogs, but traffic must be adapted to the terrain, weather and conditions on site. The trail is not suitable for wheelchairs. There is parking, toilets, barbecue areas and trash cans at the picnic area by the beach. Bring warm clothes. The weather can change quickly, and the wind over Efjorden can pick up throughout the day. Show consideration for nesting birds on islets and islands in the area.

Drive the E6 south from Narvik towards Efjord. Cross the Efjord bridge, and make the first left turn after the bridge to the parking area at Korallstranden on Storøya. From the parking lot, it is about 300 meters on a path in varied forest terrain and over rocks down to the beach.
