Description

The eagle's nest is an accessible hiking destination for those who want to get a little higher up and get a clear encounter with the fjord and mountain landscape around Kjøpsvik. The place is located above the village and is used extensively by local hikers.

The trip goes through varied northern Norwegian nature, with coastal and forest terrain on the way up to the viewpoint. From the Eagle's Nest you get a wide view of Kjøpsvik, Tysfjorden and the surrounding mountains. Here you can see how the village is close to the fjord, with the mountainsides as a frame around the landscape.

The eagle's nest can also be included as part of several trips in the area. A route goes from Smineslia via Ørneredet and on towards Stortinden, and it is also possible to combine the trip with the trail network towards Kjøpsvikvatnet and Veten. This makes the Eagle's Nest a good destination both for a short trip and as part of a longer hiking day.

From the center of Narvik, follow the E6 south towards Ballangen. Drive through Ballangen and further over the Efjord bridges. After the bridges, continue for a short distance before turning left and following rv. 827 towards Kjøpsvik. Continue through the tunnels and along the fjord towards Kjøpsvik.

Turn north at the roundabout on Kjøpsvikveien, fv. 827, on the north side of the tunnel through Kjøpsvik. Drive Damveien, which is a gravel road, to the parking lot by the dam.

Park by the dam and follow the road towards the shooting house. On the left side of the road you will see a large board with hiking signs. This is the starting point for the trips. Furthermore, marker poles have been set up to show the way at the start, before you follow a clear path further up. The route is also well signposted and marked.
