Description

Evenesvika is an easily accessible beach and outdoor area at Evenestangen in Evenes. On hot summer days, locals and visitors alike flock here to swim, relax by the fjord and use the area as a quiet stop on the way. The beach has a sandy beach and rocks. At low tide, the area is shallow, which makes the bathing experience well suited for small children. Here you can swim, look for crabs on the shore, sunbathe on the rocks or bring a packed lunch and let the day go by at a leisurely pace by the Ofotfjord. Evenesvika is located close to Evenestangen, which is also known as a good fishing spot. From the area, there is a marked hiking trail to Haugbakken and Liakollen, and out on the isthmus you will find the Stone Church, a 5.5 meter high granite sculpture made by Bjørn Nørgaard and opened in 1995 as part of Artscape Nordland. The area also has a significant historical side. At Evenestangen there is a marked cultural trail with war memorials from a German coastal battery plant from World War II. Here you can see bunkers and remains of, among other things, gun emplacements, anti-aircraft positions, communications, sanitary facilities and barracks. In this way, Evenesvika gathers bathing area, outdoor life, fjord landscape, art and local war history in one place.

Evenesvika nås med bil fra E10 ved Harstad/Narvik lufthavn Evenes. Ta av mot Evenes kirke, og følg fjorden østover mot Steinkirka. Parkeringsplass ved stranda. Offentlig transport helt frem til området er ikke tilgjengelig.

Sandy beach, rocks and shallow water at low tide. The area is well suited for small children at low tide. Parking is available by the beach. Toilet is not available. There is a marked hiking trail from the area to Haugbakken and Liakollen. Evenestangen offers a good fishing spot. There are benches in the outdoor area by Steinkirka. The cultural trail at Evenestangen offers easy terrain, but be aware of loose stones in the old stone staircase. Be careful on rocks, especially when they are wet or slippery. Show consideration for cultural monuments, use established paths, park in suitable places and take waste home.

Follow the signs from the E10 towards Evenes Church and follow the signs further towards the Stone Church and war memorials. After about 4km you follow the road east by the sea and come to the beach just after you have passed the church. To visit Steinkirka, follow the road further towards Evenestangen and park in the designated parking lot. From the parking lot, the path goes towards Steinkirka over rocks.
