Description

Gulbrandsons Park is close to the city center, but quickly gives the feeling of getting up and out a little. The park is well suited for a short walk, a quiet break or an easy walk to the viewpoint Utsikten, about 65 meters above sea level.

A 270-metre-long road has been made through the park, which has been made as gentle as possible so that people with disabilities can also get up. Ten light poles have been set up to illuminate the road and the park area, and at the top there are two benches. The view has been opened up after over 150 trees have been cut down, so you get a better view of Narvik, the Ofotfjord and the mountains that frame the city.

At the view stands the obelisk, which was set up by Narvik Vel in 1951. At the obelisk there is a copper plate where the mountain peaks around the city are marked with sight lines, names and altitude above sea level. When you stand at the viewpoint, you can use the markings to find the mountains you see around you. That makes the place more than a nice photo spot. Here you get a concrete encounter with Narvik's landscape, where the city, the fjord and the mountains are closely connected.
