Description

The Midnattsoltrappa starts at the community house in Spansdalen in Lavangen. The wooden staircase follows the terrain closely and has solid handrails on both sides. This is a mountain hike where the altitude comes step by step. Some sections are steeper than others, but the stairs provide a neat and arranged way up through the landscape. Along the way, there are benches and picnic areas where you can stop, take a breath and look out over Spansdalen. The hike is suitable for children who can walk over 2000 steps. At the top, a viewing platform awaits with a view of Spansdalen, Tennevoll and parts of the fjord. The midnight sun is best experienced in June and July, while the season for the trip is from late spring to late autumn. The light, the valley space and the mountainsides give the trip a distinct northern Norwegian character. From the platform, you can continue on towards Henrikkafossen. The trail continues into the valley towards the waterfall, which falls down the mountainside and provides a raw finish for those who want to see more than the stairs themselves. After the hike, it is also possible to take a cold bath in the Spansdal river at the bottom of the stairs.
