Description

Nedre Skinnstakk is a moderately demanding mountain hike for those who want to enter quiet mountain terrain in Evenes. The hiking destination is located by Nedre Skinnstakkvatn, in a landscape with mountain lakes, marshes, grazing areas and open mountain sections. The recommended route goes from the parking lot at the North Cape directly up to Nedre Skinnstakk. From here you can return via Steinlegda and further down towards Klubbfjellvatnet, where there is a shelter by the water. The round trip provides a varied mountain experience without making the trip more complicated than necessary. For an easier hike in the same mountain area, you can go directly from the North Cape to Klubbfjellvatnet. This hike has a small difference in altitude and follows a marked path, but the area can be marshy. Wear footwear that can withstand wet surfaces. Nedre Skinnstakk is relevant in the Narvik region because the trip shows a quieter side of the mountains around Ofoten: real, open and close to nature. Here, it is not major interventions that dominate, but paths, water, grazing animals and mountain terrain that require common mountain sense and respect for the area.

Choose suitable footwear. There is climbing over the wettest parts on the route to Klubbfjellvatnet. The trip is suitable for children who are experienced in the mountains. It is nice to camp at Nedste Skinnstakkvatn, and it is possible to fish in the lake. The barrier may be closed without warning in the event of heavy rainfall or other conditions, but not in such a way that cars are trapped.

The start/barrier at the E10 is located 1.8 km from the junction at the bottom of Dragvikbakken and the same distance from the junction at Osvatnet. From the E10 you can follow Fjellveien, Lakså, up to the end point at the North Cape. From the trail junction at the North Cape, follow the marked path up to Steinlegda and further past Svartvatnet. The trim box stands on a headland by Nedre Skinnstakkvatn. For the round trip, you walk back from Nedre Skinnstakk, past Steinlegda, to the trail junction at Klubbfjellet. There you take a sharp right and follow the marked trail down towards Klubbfjellvatnet, over the bridge and on to the shelter. From Klubbfjellvatnet, follow the marked trail back to the North Cape.
