Description

Massive as always, a giant naval cannon stands in the middle of a weathered terrain on a hill in Harstad. With a fantastic view of the sea, the peninsula is only 3 km from Harstad city center, overlooking the islands of Senja, Andøya and Grytøya. This also gives the Adolf cannon the ability to fire at sailing routes in all directions. The Adolf cannon, a World War II giant that has survived in Harstad in the 21st century, has a range of up to 56 kilometers and a barrel wide enough to accommodate an adult. Of the four batteries at Trondenes Fortress, only the Adolf cannon has been preserved in maintained and functioning condition. History of World War II Sightseeing at the "Adolf Cannon" is an absolute must for history buffs. After meeting at Trondenes, the guide will take you on a sightseeing tour of the cannon's basement, which houses a small museum with cartridge cases and a number of instruments from World War II, preserved in excellent condition to remind future generations of the horrors of war. You will then be taken up the gun turret to see the massive firing mechanism itself. The cannon is a living testament to German quality design, built with a "the bigger, the better" mentality and impressive engineering. See the cannon from the inside As part of this historical tour, you will also get to visit the 21-meter race. Please note that since the cannon is located at a Norwegian naval base, it is forbidden to take photographs on the trip through the area. Pictures can only be taken in and around the cannon.
