Description

The trip takes you from the mountain birch forest at Björkliden and down into Kåppasjokk, one of Sweden's longest cave systems. Here, water has over time shaped an underground landscape with narrow passages, streams, larger cave rooms, stalactites and stalagmites. On the way to the cave, the guide tells you about the flora, fauna and mountain landscape around Björkliden. Once there, you put on your cave equipment and follow the guide underground, where the trip alternates between upright walking, low sections and passages where you have to crawl. Kåppasjokk has two entrances that are about 20 meters apart, but which offer different experiences underground. When conditions allow, both are explored. Between the trips into the cave system, there is a break by the stream with something to eat.

Björkliden kan nås fra Narvik med bil eller tog. Det er mulig å reise med tog fra Narvik til Björkliden, som har egen togstasjon. Björkliden stasjon ligger rundt én kilometer fra Hotell Fjället. Additional information

Bring a water bottle. Bring hiking boots, preferably a model that goes over the ankle. Bring a rain jacket and rain pants. Bring a warm jacket or an extra thick sweater. Bring a hat, gloves, buff or scarf and sunglasses. The temperature in the caves is uniformly cool. Therefore, bring extra warm clothes even on hot days. Exploring both cave entrances depends on the conditions.

Björkliden can be reached from Narvik by car or train. It is possible to travel by train from Narvik to Björkliden, which has its own train station. Björkliden station is about one kilometre from Hotell Fjället. Buses may be an option depending on the season and current route offerings. Always check the current routes before departure. Weather and driving conditions in the mountains can change quickly.
