Description

Join us on a unique evening journey along the historic Ofoten Railway, traveling far away from city lights and noise into the Arctic wilderness. This experience is more than just a train ride — it’s a memorable quest into the polar night in search of one of nature’s most spectacular phenomena: the Aurora Borealis.

As the train departs Narvik, we travel through dramatic Arctic landscapes under dark skies that provide excellent conditions for spotting the Northern Lights. Our destination is the remote mountain station of Katterat, located 373 meters above sea level. With no road access and surrounded by untouched wilderness, Katterat is one of the darkest locations in the region — an ideal place to search for the Aurora.

Upon arrival, we step off the train into the quiet stillness of the Arctic night. Gather around a cozy campfire under the open sky while a nearby lavvu (traditional Sami tent) provides warmth and shelter if needed. Your host will serve hot drinks and a light snack as we wait for the northern lights to appear, creating a comfortable and magical atmosphere.

During the stop, your guide will share stories about the Ofoten Railway, the surrounding area, and life in the Arctic, adding depth and insight to this special experience. Whether the Aurora dances across the sky or the peaceful Arctic silence surrounds us, the setting at Katterat offers a truly unforgettable moment.

After our time at Katterat, we return to the train and travel back to Narvik — hopefully bringing with you magical memories and breathtaking images from this Arctic night adventure.
