Snorkeling expedition with killer whales in Reinfjord

Every winter, large numbers of herring migrate into the fjords of Northern Norway. It attracts killer whales in large flocks, and also provides the opportunity to see humpback whales, fin whales and sometimes sperm whales. From the remote base in Reinfjord, Offtrack Experience invites guests into a close encounter with Arctic wildlife, fjord landscapes and winter lights.

The stay is centered around a cozy house by the fjord, with a private sailboat at the quay and a wood-fired sauna available after days out on the fjord. Guests stay in a private room in the accommodation, and some nights can be spent on board the sailboat if weather, conditions, and program allow. This provides the flexibility to follow the areas where killer whales and whales hunt for herring.

Every day, the trip goes out on the fjord to observe the whales in their natural habitat. The exact position of the whales can never be guaranteed, but the crew uses their experience and local knowledge to facilitate good, respectful experiences. The expedition is led by an experienced crew, with skipper Delphine, a former merchant navy officer, who has been guiding whale watching and snorkeling trips in these waters for several years.

For professional and highly experienced swimmers with their own equipment, it may be possible to snorkel with killer whales and whales. Snorkeling only takes place when the conditions are safe and the animals are calm. All meetings follow strict ethical and local guidelines for whale watching, with respectful distance to flocks that are migrating or in search of food.
