Description

The hike takes you through Geargevággi, also known as Kärkevagge, a spectacular valley between Björkliden and Riksgränsen. Here, the trail goes through mountain birch forest and further in between large boulders and rock formations that testify to the forces that shaped the landscape during the last ice age. At the bottom of the valley is Trollsjön. The lake is known for its very clear waters, with a visibility depth of around 36 meters in good conditions. Steep mountainsides and the open high mountain landscape form the framework for the goal of the trip. This is an independent walk. The organizer transports you to the starting point and shows you where the trail begins. You will be given a map, compass and tour description before continuing on your own through the valley. At Trollsjön, you can take a break and eat your own lunch before following the route back. After the hike, you will be picked up at the starting point and driven back to Björkliden.

Additional information

Bring a packed lunch, water bottle and hot drinks. Wear sturdy hiking boots, preferably with shafts that go over the ankle. Bring a rain jacket, rain pants and a warm jacket or thick sweater. Bring a hat, gloves, buff or scarf and sunglasses. Sunscreen, cap or sun hat, seat pads, first aid kits, and personal medications are also recommended. Parts of the trail can be wet and rocky. Follow signs and marked paths. Trollsjön has a vulnerable environment. Avoid swimming in the lake to help preserve the water quality and ecosystem.

72km from central Narvik

From the center of Narvik, follow the E10 east towards Bjørnfjell and the Swedish border, and continue on the E10 through Riksgränsen towards Björkliden. It is also possible to travel by public transport from Narvik. Trains on the route to Sweden stop at Björkliden station, and in the summer season there are also bus connections from Narvik with a stop in Björkliden. Always check the current timetable before departure. The actual transport from Björkliden to the starting point of the hike is included in the product.
