Sami experiences for the family
We start the day with a good Sami lunch, which we prepare ourselves over the fire in the lavvu. A Sami lunch consists of wraps, salted salmon, smoked salmon, salted lam, blueberries, lingonberries and sour cream. Then there will be a bit more Sami culture, such as lasso throwing and archery. Maybe we'll even find some old Sami cultural relics with the metal detector! We also take time to greet the huskies and the lambs on the neighboring farm.
Then we take the trip to the cave. The Sami people have used it for hiding throughout history. A very long time ago, the Sami hid in the cave when there was a storm, or when it was necessary to hide from the public. During the war, people hid from the occupying power.
Normally the trip takes half an hour each way. The path can be a little steep in some places, so it can also take a little longer. If floods make it impossible to visit the cave, we go for a walk in the mountains with huskies.
When we return, the Sami shaman will tell the story of the Sami, joik, about the language, reindeer husbandry and the Sami in modern society. There will also be a small ceremony where we give a gift to the fire spirit.
Finally, we serve biidus, a famous Sami dish, which contains a lot of reindeer meat.
