Description

Through these events, the Senior Citizens’ Council of Narvik wishes to highlight the important role older people play in society. The day also aims to draw attention to the opportunities, challenges and rights of an ageing population.

This year’s themes are “An active and social life as a senior” and “Active choices for a good life throughout life.” The themes focus on the importance of staying active, maintaining social connections and making positive choices at every stage of life.

“Globally, nationally and locally, the 60+ population is the fastest-growing age group. The demographic composition has changed significantly over just a few decades – and this development will continue,” says Kjell Inge Mentzen.

The International Day of Older Persons was established by the United Nations in 1990, with the aim of putting the situation and rights of older people on the global and local agenda. It is also an opportunity to honour the older generation and recognise the value of their life experience, knowledge and contributions to society.

This year’s programme will include a mini concert, a lecture, a presentation of the activity centre and information from the voluntary centre, as well as an opportunity to enjoy coffee, cake and social company.
