On Saturday, October 24, we invite you to a screening of the documentary LA FJELLET LEVE – a powerful and personal story about nature, people, rights and the struggle to protect a way of life and a culture that has been passed down through generations.

The film takes us into the conflict at Fosen, where Sámi families have been at the centre of a long-running struggle against the development of one of Europe’s largest wind power projects. Through personal stories and close encounters with those directly affected, the film provides insight into the consequences of the development and the struggle that continued after Norway’s Supreme Court ruled that the wind farm development violated Indigenous rights.

LA FJELLET LEVE follows the conflict between Sámi families at Fosen and the development of the wind power project, consisting of 151 enormous wind turbines. For the families who depend on the area for reindeer herding, the conflict is about far more than the turbines themselves. It is about nature, tradition, culture, identity and the possibility of maintaining their way of life for future generations.

The film offers a unique insight into what happened – and perhaps just as importantly, what did not happen – in the years after Norway’s Supreme Court ruled that the development violated the rights of Sámi reindeer herders as Indigenous people.

Through the film, audiences meet the people at the heart of the conflict and hear their experiences, perspectives and reflections. LA FJELLET LEVE encourages audiences to reflect on important questions surrounding Indigenous rights, environmental impact, energy policy and the balance between society’s needs and the rights of those directly affected.
