Analyses and knowledge base
Through insights, plans and guidelines, we want to make the work on sustainable destination development more open, accessible and transparent – and show how the knowledge base contributes to our strategic direction.
Good decisions start with good insight. On this page, we gather analyses, reports and knowledge base that show how tourism in the Narvik region is developing, what value the industry creates, and what opportunities and challenges we must take into account in further destination development.

The analysis of tourism in the Narvik region is a value creation and ripple effect analysis that Menon Economics has carried out on behalf of Visit Narvik in 2022.
The purpose of the report is to map and analyse travellers' consumption, the importance of the local market and tourism production. We compile a number of sources and methods to provide the best possible overview of the importance of tourism for local value creation and employment in the Narvik region. The analysis can be read in its entirety here: Report/analysis of tourism in the Narvik region
- Ripple effect analysis of the Alpine World Ski Championships in Narvik
-
On behalf of Visit Narvik, Menon Economics, in collaboration with Professor Kåre Sandvik, has conducted a ripple effect analysis of the Alpine World Ski Championships in Narvik in 2027. The analysis from 2022 goes further than just assessing economic ripple effects in that it also describes the socio-economic benefits of the World Cup as a common good for the population. Furthermore, we have analysed the reputational and marketing effects of the event and what it could mean for the tourism industry in particular. The report highlights the positive effects of an Alpine World Ski Championships not only for Narvik, but also the rest of Northern Norway and Norway as a whole.

- Risk and vulnerability analysis for tourism in the Narvik region
-
The landscape at our destination is varied, and consists of mountains, fjords, coastal areas, valleys, glaciers, as well as forests and low-lying, hilly terrain. Much of the tourism industry's activities take place in nature, and are therefore exposed to risk. Ski touring activity is increasing in popularity and we know that accidents happen, therefore it is important to be precautionary.
Visit Narvik has therefore made a simplified RVA-analysis based on our destination's uniqueness and seasonal variations, as well as made a risk assessment of probability and consequence, which we now share in several relevant channels, and we encourage tourism companies and municipalities to do the same.
