Women's Day celebration - Violence against women

Narvik

Women's struggle and the fight against violence in close relationships must be done 365 days a year. This year we are moving the date a bit and you are invited to mark Women's Day on Monday 4 March.
In Norway, one in ten women is subjected to serious violence by their partner. 1 in 4 murders in Norway are partner murders and in almost all cases the victim has reported intimate partner violence in advance. Violence in close relationships is a serious crime that has major consequences both for the person who is directly exposed and their relatives. It is estimated that between 75,000 and 150,000 people are exposed to such violence in Norway each year.
In 2022, the Office of the Auditor General conducted a review of the authorities' work against violence in close relationships. It showed that the clearance rate is decreasing, the case processing time is too long and that the follow-up of violence alarms and restraining orders is insufficient.
At the library, you will receive professional knowledge from author and researcher at UiT Ole Greger Lillevik and important information from Lise Evensen, head of investigations in Nordland Police District, about their work with the prevention of intimate partner violence, reporting processes and violence alarms/reverse violence alarms.
When the event at the library is over, we go to a free screening of the film "Night" at Aurora Kino.
The March 8th committee, in collaboration with Narvik unge sanitet, Narvik library and Aurora Kino, we hope there will be many who will focus on this important issue this evening.
Welcome to Narvik Library on March 4th!
