To mark Giellavahkku / Sámi Language Week, we invite you to a screening of the 2026 documentary "Sámi vs. Sámi" (Same mot Same), followed by a captivating conversation featuring filmmaker Ellen-Astri Lundby, producer Johanna Raita, and author Tina Harnesk. After the film, the three will join together on stage to discuss forced relocation and the lingering, intergenerational conflicts it leaves behind. The discussion will be moderated by Stina Katrin Åmo from the Sámi Parliament's Library. About the Film: A unique legal dispute between Indigenous groups unfolds on screen: two Sámi communities face off in court, locked in an unyielding conflict with roots in state-enforced relocations over a century ago. How do you agree on a shared future when your pasts are lived so differently? More than a hundred years ago, the Norwegian state forced North Sámi people to relocate into South Sámi territory. Today, their descendants fight in court over land, reindeer husbandry, and the right to their Sámi identity.
The film illustrates how historical state policies continue to divide a people and shape their future. Partnership: This event is part of a collaboration between the public libraries in Narvik/Áhkánjarga, Hábmer/Hamarøy, and Fauske/Fuosko, alongside the Sámi Parliament’s Library. Funding:
The tour is funded by Nordland County Library (Nordland fylkesbibliotek).
