It features dishes like pinnekjøtt (dried, cured lamb ribs), ribbe (roast pork belly), lutefisk (dried cod soaked in lye), and warm, spiced gløgg (mulled wine). These specialties, accompanied by Norwegian Christmas bread and various sweet treats, create a flavorful and heartwarming culinary experience during the holiday season.

Most shops have extended opening hours the last weeks before Christmas: They close later in the evening, and they are open the last three Sundays before Christmas Eve.

Public holidays
25 and 26 December and 1 January are public holidays in Norway, and most shops and attractions are closed.
24 and 31 December fall on Sundays in 2023, and thus most shops and attractions are closed on these dates as well.

Attractions generally have reduced opening hours during the Christmas holidays, and some are closed.

The tourist information center in Narvik maintains its regular hours during Christmas, open daily from 10 AM to 4 PM, except on the 24th and 25th when it remains closed.
