Handel’s Messiah – Celebrating 100 Years of Narvik Church

Handel’s Messiah – Celebrating 100 Years of Narvik Church

In connection with Narvik Church’s 100th anniversary this year, Narvik Church Chamber Choir, in collaboration with Musikk i Nordland, presents Handel’s monumental work, Messiah.

The performance features Vox Arctica from Harstad and a baroque orchestra playing on period instruments. Since 2008, the chamber choir has specialized in performing major baroque oratorios with historically informed instruments – including string instruments with baroque bows and gut strings, and other instruments that are historical replicas from the baroque era. This approach creates a unique, vibrant, and flowing musical experience, bringing the music alive and making it fresh and exciting for modern audiences.

Musikk i Nordland has been an active partner and co-organizer in many of these productions, most recently with Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in 2023, which was met with great success.

The concert will be conducted by Professor Bjørn Andor Drage from Bodø. Exceptional soloists include soprano Jurgita Juozuniene from Narvik, alto Sunniva Håkestad Eliassen from Harstad, tenor Mathias Gillebo from Oslo, and baritone Magnus Berg, originally from Kjøpsvik and currently with the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen. Everything is in place for a truly remarkable concert experience!

We look forward to giving audiences in Narvik, Harstad, and surrounding areas the opportunity to hear this extraordinary work.
