Kiruna Church move

Over two days in August 2025, the Kiruna Church will be moved to its new location, and the public is invited to witness this historic moment during the event The Great Church Walk.

To create a memorable experience, designated viewing spots have been set up along the relocation route, where visitors can follow the church’s movement live. At the same time, a full stage program will take place at the Town Hall Square, where the entire relocation will be broadcast on a large screen. The main stage program will feature expert interviews, reflections on the church's history and significance, as well as musical performances and other entertainment. The event at the square will run on both days, with preliminary hours from 08:00 to 17:00. All activities are open and free for visitors.

The relocation of Kiruna Church is a unique event in world history, and The Great Church Walk offers both residents and visitors the opportunity to take part in this significant chapter in the city’s development. For generations, the church has been an important gathering place—a space for community. That’s why, during this major change, we also want to create new opportunities for connection.
