From Rakfisk to Grandiosa

The “Our Food” Project presents:
Andreas Viestad at Narvik Library!

A fascinating and unconventional history of Norway, told through the food we eat.

Norwegian food history is a story of abundance and scarcity, raw creativity, and extreme resourcefulness.
Andreas Viestad is one of our leading food writers. In his book “Vår mathistorie” (“Our Food History”), he offers a new perspective on Norwegian history and takes us on an exciting journey through time and cuisine — from the first rakfisk 10,000 years ago to the debut of the Grandiosa pizza in 1980. He highlights our unique flavors, dishes, and traditions, and shows why they are worth preserving. Anyone who believes Norway has a poor food culture will have to think again after this lecture.

Andreas Viestad is known as a food writer and as the academic director of the Geitmyra Culinary Center for Children. He is also co-owner of the grill restaurant St. Lars and has authored 14 bestselling cookbooks, as well as the critically acclaimed “A Meal in Rome: A Culinary Tour of the Eternal City.”
