Riksteatret: The Dream Of A White Christmas
på Narvik KulturhusThe dream of a white Christmas.
It sounds undeniably romantic and heartwarming.
But don't be fooled.
And by all means don't take the kids with you on this one.
It's Christmas Eve, and an old mother is waiting for her two adult sons with their families. Will they all come this year?
No. Of course not all of them. But the sons eventually show up. They think it's tiring with the old, lame and blind woman as she is. Wouldn't it be better for everyone if she, you know.
And just as the thought is being thought, there's a knock on the door.
A case of vintage wine is brought to the table. A large knife finds its victim. Lies and truth are to be uncovered. Mother's past is to be illuminated. And we're going to sing old songs again.
There will be parties and fireworks, laughter and tears, pork knuckles and Christmas trees and plenty of Christmas spirit when the State Theatre rings in the Christmas season together with the National Theatre and the National Theatre.
In recent years, the State Theatre has achieved great success throughout Norway with its critically acclaimed performances, where they show how humor and warm madness can convey themes for reflection. They are particularly known for their very personal presentation of 1,000 years of Norwegian history told through ten theater performances in ten years. In 2022, they received the Hedda Prize for "special artistic effort".
We repeat: Do not bring the children to this one.
The reviewers say:
"The audience surrenders to a laughter that is rarely heard in the theater"
Aftenposten (5)
"We may need something to laugh at, (..) that disconnects us from general Christmas stress or the world around us. Especially when it reveals a core of gold, truth and reflection."
Dagsavisen (5)
"Abundant laughs – and the occasional truth amidst the surreal"
Vårt Land
