Susanne Lundeng - "The Blessed"

på Narvik Kulturhus
"The Blessed" awakens dormant sounds.

The old fiddlers have fallen silent and Susanne is now one of the oldest fiddlers in her traditional area of Salten and Lofoten. For Susanne, it has been a longing to hear and play with the old ones she met in her younger years. The project stems from a desire to highlight our common old musical heritage in a close encounter between fiddlers, singers, the duo and the audience.

The concert will be a symbiosis with the duo and archive recordings of old fiddlers and female voices from Salten and Lofoten.

By sampling sounds, phrases and single notes from the old tunes and songs, each fiddler will retain their voice and identity, just as they sound on older recordings, but they will play new music that Susanne composes.

The concert will consist of various sequences that treat typical musical stylistic features in the tradition. Parts of the music will be completely composed new music and some in a more improvisational form and here Susanne is in good playing company with Nils-Olav Johansen on guitar and electronics.

For the first time, fiddle players who lived at the same time, but in different places, get to play with each other and Susanne gets to join in!

Participating:

Susanne Lundeng – composer, fiddle, vocals and technique
Nils-Olav Johansen – guitar, electronics and co-creator
Are Bredahl Simonsen – sound
