Traditional Candlelight Service at Narvik Church

The service begins and ends with a procession of lights. Central elements include the lighting of the seven-branched candelabrum and readings from the Bible foretelling the coming of Jesus. The scripture readings are accompanied by hymns and choral pieces that reflect on the Advent message.

The spirit of anticipation characteristic of the Advent season is at the heart of this service. Each year, the congregation gathers in large numbers to experience this beautiful and peaceful moment – a serene beginning to the otherwise busy pre-Christmas season.

Øivind Bakken will play the organ and lead the Church Choir from the gallery.
Elisabeth Bangstad Storjord will serve as the scripture reader, and Ingjerd Grøm will conduct the Children’s and Youth Choir.

The offering from the Candlelight Service will be donated to Norwegian Church Aid, which provides vital support to refugees and people living in poverty around the world.
