Anniversary Performance - "In the Light of History"

The performance is an artistic time travel from 1956 to the present day, where music, dance, humor, and storytelling are woven together into a warm, popular, and proud tribute to both Vinterfestuka and Narvik. Audiences will encounter both the major historical moments and the small details that have influenced the people, environment, and identity of the city — and in turn, left their mark on the festival. Professional artists and local talents share the stage to highlight each decade through a variety of artistic expressions.

On stage, you will meet artists including Magnus Berg, Nina Gravrok, Marit Sandvik, Heidi Blåsmo, Tony Naima, and Lars Bodén (from Byen Som Forsvant), as well as Finn Arve Sørbø, who guides the audience through the performance. Choreography is developed by dancer Gerd Kaisa Vorren, who also performs on stage alongside Chollada Phinitduang, and the production is directed by Sara Bruteig Olsen. The music is performed by musicians from Musikk i Nordland, along with several other artists and local contributors.

In light of history, the performance celebrates the past that has shaped us, embraces the moment we share here and now, and looks forward to the possibilities ahead for both the city and the festival.

This will be a performance where past decades come to life in dialogue with today’s artists — an experience in which music, dance, storytelling, and stagecraft connect past, present, and future on a single stage.
