Fyr Pháros // Narvik Kulturhus // Mørkholla
Along the coastline stand the lighthouses—quiet, steadfast, and ever-present. For generations, they have been lit by people who keep the light alive for one another. A light that guides those who have lost their course, inviting them toward a safe harbor where they can belong. This light, known as pháros, becomes a central symbol in this unique concert experience.
When Michalis Cholevas, Julie Rokseth, and Andreas Rokseth come together, musical traditions from Greece and Norway merge. Through music and storytelling, they carry forward tales from the coasts of Greece, Trøndelag, and Northern Norway—stories of the sea, coastal life, and the light found both in the north and the south.
With a distinctive instrumentation featuring Celtic harp, bandoneon, the rare instrument tarhu, as well as violin, viola, and cello, Ensemble Phos creates an atmospheric and original soundscape. The concept began in 2019, when siblings Julie and Andreas Rokseth invited Michalis Cholevas to an artist residency on the small lighthouse island of Sula. There, surrounded by ocean and history, the foundation was laid for a musical collaboration inspired by coastal cultures and human connection.
The result is an intimate and sensory concert experience—where music, stories, and atmosphere are woven together into a whole that resonates deeply and brings people together.
