Invitation to Conference – Housing in the North: Thriving Local Communities

We are pleased to invite you to the conference Housing in the North – Thriving Local Communities on May 28, 2026. The conference will focus on the importance of strong local communities as a foundation for preparedness, value creation, and settlement in northern regions.

Both the Norwegian Total Preparedness Report and the Government’s Northern Areas Strategy highlight the importance of safe, attractive, and vibrant local communities. Access to quality housing, services, culture, and leisure activities is essential to achieve this.

Housing availability is a key factor in ensuring sustainable and thriving communities. Today, housing construction is at its lowest level since 1946. High costs and complex planning processes contribute to lower development than needed, while demand continues to rise due to business growth, tourism, defense investments, and demographic changes.

At the conference, we will explore the way forward for housing development. What framework conditions are needed to increase housing construction and make the region more attractive to the workforce? Addressing this challenge requires collaboration between public and private stakeholders, targeted measures, and a shared commitment.

We have invited a range of experienced speakers who will share insights, experiences, and proposals for future solutions. The aim is to highlight the need for increased housing development and identify opportunities for sustainable growth.

Target audience:
Political parties, businesses, municipalities and county authorities, housing associations, developers, financial institutions, and others engaged in housing and community development.
