lunch concert with Musikk i Nordland//March

This Thursday we will play Bedřich Smetana's string quartet "From My Life", which was a pioneering work in its time. He was deaf and living in poverty under a small pension when he composed the quartet. Instead of following the usual rules of composition and form in his time, he chose to do something that had not been done before; to compose from a personal perspective, a kind of "life in revue" work.

From his happy youth with parties and dancing, his first love, via Czech national music and to his personal tragedy with tinnitus, hearing loss and finally deafness. Program: String Quartet No. 1 in E minor "From My Life" by Bedřich Smetana (1876).
