Maten Vår: Urban Farming at Nye Rønningtomta

How can we create a city gem for the future? Welcome to a new and inspiring lecture in the “Maten Vår” project, where this time we turn our attention to the exciting plans for Rønningtomta in Narvik.

Rønningtomta Vel has taken the initiative to develop this important meeting place in the city center, with the goal of creating a vibrant space for urban agriculture. Plans include planting beds, greenhouses, and an amphitheater for education in food-related subjects.

Through community-based cultivation across generations, the aim is to promote increased quality of life, a stronger sense of belonging, and better public health—fully in line with the vision of the “Maten Vår” project. Project leader Pål-Iver Skogvold will give us insight into the ongoing plans and developments.

The Glass Kiosk, located right next to the site, has also shown great enthusiasm for the project. Vegard Stormo will share his thoughts on what such an urban agriculture initiative could mean for the local community, and the opportunities it may bring.

In addition, researcher Ida-Sofie Stryken from UiT The Arctic University of Norway will present her work on urban agriculture. She has selected Narvik and Rønningtomta as her field site and will provide a brief introduction to her research and what she will be following in the time ahead.

The evening will conclude with time for questions, mingling, and tastings of delicious samples. We warmly welcome both new and long-time followers of the “Maten Vår” project to an inspiring evening.

The new Rønningtomta project is a collaboration between Rønningtomta Vel, Narvik Municipality, and Midtre Hålogaland Outdoor Council.
