Soetkin Baptist singing Jeff Buckley´s "Grace"

The Belgian-born artist and vocalist Soetkin Baptist, currently based in Valnesfjord, has made a name for herself as a versatile and expressive musician. She leads several choirs and projects in the region, and combines her classical training with a distinctive voice in both jazz and rhythmic music—often compared to greats such as Joni Mitchell and Édith Piaf.

Now, in collaboration with the Northern Norwegian Jazz Centre, she brings her artistic expression across the region with a new and exciting project that promises powerful musical experiences. Together with a handpicked ensemble of musicians from both Belgium and Norway, Soetkin Baptist will present her personal interpretation of Jeff Buckley’s iconic album Grace.

In this project, the material is explored in a new musical landscape, where 1990s grunge meets influences from jazz and Renaissance music. The result is a fresh and unique approach to Buckley’s legendary songs, shaped by Baptist’s expressive vocal style and the ensemble’s collective sound.

Together, they create a musical experience where genre boundaries dissolve, and where interpretation, emotion, and interplay are at the forefront.
