Words on Track: Excitement in two generations

Crime Night with Gunnar Staalesen and Heine Bakkeid

An undisputed highlight of Vinterfestuka will take place when Gunnar Staalesen and Heine Bakkeid meet on stage during Ord i Spor. Staalesen takes us into his epic body of work about the 20th century, while Bakkeid opens the door to a brand-new, dark and unpredictable crime series. Two authors, two eras. Welcome to a grand crime evening at Narvik bibliotek!

Heine T. Bakkeid (1974) was born in Gratangen and lives in Kvæfjord. I Will Miss You Tomorrow (2016), featuring former interrogation leader Thorkild Aske in the lead role, was Bakkeid’s first crime novel. The award-winning and critically acclaimed Thorkild Aske series has been sold to 18 countries. The Night Sailor, his first book in a new Northern Norwegian noir series set in Harstad, has been described by reviewers as dark, intense, and brilliantly composed.

Gunnar Staalesen was born in Bergen in 1947. He has an extensive and impressive body of work across many genres. Among other achievements, he has given us a lifetime with Varg Veum, offering vivid insight into Bergen’s narrow alleys and streets. In conversation with Bakkeid, we are taken into his magnificent historical 20th-century trilogy, which can confidently be called the world’s longest detective novel. Here, we follow the colorful development of Bergen over an entire century.

This will be an evening of dark mysteries, sharp conversations, and crime fiction at the highest level.
