Björkliden Arctic Mountain Marathon (BAMM)

The Björkliden Arctic Mountain Marathon (BAMM) is a spectacular two-day mountain race and navigation challenge set in the borderlands between Norway and Sweden. Taking place on August 14–15, 2026, the event starts and finishes in the Riksgränsen area.

BAMM is more than just a race, it’s a true adventure. Competing in teams of two, participants navigate with map and compass through untouched Arctic wilderness, crossing mountains, valleys, and glacier-shaped landscapes. Success depends not only on speed, but also on strategy, teamwork, and smart route choices.

The event offers several classes with varying distances and levels of difficulty. Participants can choose between an introductory course of approximately 30 km, a more demanding 50 km, or the ultimate 70 km challenge. The longer the distance, the greater the demands on endurance, experience, and the ability to handle the Arctic terrain.

The race unfolds over two days. On Day 1, teams receive their maps and must plan their own routes between checkpoints before heading out into the mountains. After a full day in the wilderness, participants gather at a shared overnight camp. On Day 2, the competition continues with a pursuit start, leading to the final finish and celebrations in Riksgränsen.

BAMM offers a unique opportunity to experience a true mountain adventure in some of the most spectacular landscapes in Northern Norway and Northern Sweden where nature sets the rules and the memories last a lifetime.
