Boat & Skiing
On the western side of the Skjomen Fjord you’ll find some of the most spectacular mountains in the entire Narvik region. This area has no road access and is therefore rarely visited by hikers and skiers. Traveling by boat gives us a unique opportunity to explore these remote mountains.
About halfway into the fjord we aim for Klubbvika, where an old farm and a tractor road lead up to a mountain pasture at the foot of Klubbviktinden. If conditions allow, we dock at the pier in Klubbvika and ski up the road to Klubbviksætra. This is a historically rich area, with Sámi cultural heritage and traces of settlement and land use dating far back in time. Rock carvings approximately 4,000 years old have also been found on this side of the fjord — truly walking on historic ground.
After a short break at Klubbviksætra, we continue toward the magnificent mountain massif north of Frostisen, the 12th largest glacier on mainland Norway. Today’s goal is Reintinden, and if conditions are favorable we may reach the summit at 1,416 meters above sea level. Apart from a short section about 200 vertical meters below the summit, the terrain remains under 30 degrees in steepness, reducing avalanche risk. With certified and experienced guides, we ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all participants.
The higher we climb along the ridge toward Reintinden, the more dramatic the views become over Skjomen and the surrounding mountains on both sides of the fjord. The view on the opposite side of the ridge is equally impressive, with glaciers clinging to the steep slopes of neighboring peaks. This kind of raw wilderness is rare in Norway — and here you get to experience it safely.
On the descent, a long and rewarding ski run awaits: first along a relatively narrow ridge, then across wide open mountain faces where you can enjoy carving your turns. Back down by the fjord, the boat awaits us. The return trip to Narvik becomes the perfect après-ski experience.
