Experience history beneath the surface – with Underwater Drone
The vessel and onboard comfort
You will meet at Narvik Harbor, just a short walk from the city center. Although our vessel, Ofotr, is certified for up to 30 passengers, we limit the tour to a maximum of 12 guests to ensure comfort, space, and an exclusive atmosphere.
On board, you can relax in the warm and spacious salon — ideal for dining — or enjoy the comfortable passenger lounge with panoramic views of fjords and mountains. The vessel is fully licensed, and beverages are available for purchase.
A journey through Narvik’s wartime history
This tour presents Narvik’s wartime history through both immersive surroundings and an advanced multimedia experience. The tour begins with an introduction by our captain, a former museum director, who explains Narvik’s strategic importance during World War II.
During the short cruise to the wreck site, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the city, fjord, and surrounding mountains, while the storytelling transports you back to the tense atmosphere of 9 April 1940.
Descent to the wreck
We then take you deep below the surface to a site very few have seen since 1940 — one of the wrecks from the famous naval battles of Narvik. The site is also an official war grave, creating a solemn, respectful, and deeply memorable atmosphere.
Live footage from the underwater drone is streamed directly to a large screen onboard, allowing all guests to follow the dive and exploration in real time.
Questions, food, and lighter stories
After the dive, the captain is available to answer questions and share further insights. We then gather in the salon to enjoy our well-known local fish burger.
Following the meal, the tone becomes lighter as you are introduced to another fascinating chapter of Narvik’s history: extensive liquor smuggling connected to the many ore ships that once called at the harbor. After a series of astonishing stories, and if conditions allow, we may even send the drone down again in search of bottles still resting on the seabed after failed smuggling attempts.
Return to harbor
After approximately three hours, we return to Narvik Harbor, passing beneath the mountains that will host the 2029 Alpine World Ski Championships.
