Narvik Mountain Guides

Narvik Mountain Guides specializes in Stetind guiding during the summer. They regularly guide climbers on Stetind and offer climbing courses in Tysfjord and Lofoten.

During the winter, Narvik Mountain Guides focuses on ski touring in Northern Scandinavia. They are based in Herjangen, just north of Narvik in Ofoten, Nordland, Norway.

From this location, they are close to their favorite ski lift in Scandinavia – Narvikfjellet – where they provide off-piste guiding from the lift. With extensive experience in the Narvik region, Narvik Mountain Guides considers it the best ski touring terrain in Scandinavia.

In addition to local guiding, they lead week-long trips to the Kebenkaise and Sarek areas in Sweden and offer ski and sail trips along the northern coast. They have extensive knowledge of the best boats and routes and frequently run week-long trips to Lyngen.

Their daily operations, however, are focused on ski touring in the Ofoten, Narvik, Lavangen, Harstad, and Gratangen areas. The region includes Norway's most mountainous island, Andørja, offering a variety of weather conditions and easy access to hundreds of day tours.

Narvik Mountain Guides are internationally certified Mountain Guides, holding the highest and most demanding certification in the professional mountain guiding world. Those interested in mountain guide education in Norway can find more information on the Nordtind website. Additionally, the company runs a Norwegian blog discussing thoughts on guiding in the country.

The company is led by Magnus Strand, an internationally certified Mountain Guide. Magnus has been climbing and skiing his entire life but transitioned to professional mountain guiding in 2007. He has worked as a guide since 2009 and became a fully qualified IFMGA guide in 2012. Having lived in the area for over two decades, Magnus is deeply familiar with the northern mountains and is eager to share his love for them while helping clients improve their skills. Although he guides worldwide, Magnus prefers being at home in Trollviken. He also works with the Norwegian Avalanche Forecasting Service, responsible for observations in the Harstad area. Magnus, who once worked as an executive in investment banking, holds a degree in Business Administration and Economics from Stockholm University. Now, he enjoys a life centered on outdoor adventures and advocates for a more localized and equitable world.
