Our Food: Permaculture in the Arctic

In 2020, Linn Kalseth and Einar Fjellskålnes took over an abandoned small farm in Gratangen with the goal of becoming as self-sufficient as possible, in harmony with nature. Through permaculture and regenerative farming, they have created a thriving farm that now attracts visitors from all over the world.

Kalseth and Fjellskålnes transformed overgrown land into fertile fields using methods from permaculture and regenerative agriculture. In a short time, they were able to produce nearly all the vegetables their family needs throughout the year—without pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or tractors.

In this illustrated lecture, they will share experiences from life on the farm and demonstrate various techniques for growing organic vegetables in Arctic conditions. The talk offers a unique insight into living more self-sufficiently, sustainably, and in harmony with nature.

The event is organized in collaboration with the Narvik and Surroundings Garden Association.
