"Peace is a Promise of the Future"
The sculpture “Peace is a Promise of the Future” was created by sculptor Håkon Anton Fagerås from Bø in Telemark. It was unveiled in Narvik on 6 August 2006, on the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
The sculpture has a clear and accessible form, designed to be easy to understand for both children and adults. With its forward-looking expression, it conveys hope, vitality and North Norwegian optimism.
Through its connection to Hiroshima, the sculpture reminds us of the importance of peace - not only as a memory of the past, but as a responsibility for the future.
The childlike element in the motif reinforces this message: peace is about safety, play, life and the opportunity to grow up in a better world.
