Here are 6 good reasons to bring your group of friends to Narvik for skiing

1. Norway'a most breath-taking ski resort - Narvikfjellet

You will be amazed by the panoramic view of the sea while skiing down Narvikfjellet. Regardless of whether you take the steepest or the easiest trials, and regardless of your skiing level, you will experience the feeling of skiing straight into the fjord. Wherever you turn- the view and the experience will long stay in your memory.

2. Delicious food and comfort

The chefs at the city's finer restaurants are among the most deserving in Arctic cuisine. They are known for presenting the Northern Norwegian natural soul on the plate. Our two renowned chefs have received awards in Arctic food.

Narvik is distinctive with several local food producers. Kuraas: Narvik's first butcher since 1926, which now produces meat for all of Norway. Steinovnsbakeriet Myklevold opened its first bakery in 1939 and since then the company has been around generation after generation.

If somebody mentions ski touring and Northern Norway most people probably think about Lofoten Islands and Lyngen.

3. Winter activities for those without skis on their feet

It is sometimes nice to experience winter without having skis on your feet. There is a large selection of different winter activities where you do not need to have skis on your feet, in the region of Narvik.

Going on a dog sledding tour is truly a wonderful experience that suits everyone, and is the perfect way to experience the Arctic wilderness. But also, how about a toboggan ride down Narvikfjellet with a group of friends? Or how about getting a guided tour of the War Museum in Narvik. Where you get to learn about the dramatic war history that unfolded in Narvik during World War II- which is the backdrop for the famous film The Battle of Narvik, which has premiers at the end of 2021.

4. Ski touring is not only for the tough ones

Narvik is perfectly located between coastal and inland mountains, giving access to a wide range of different terrains and microclimates. From the mountains you will experience the most amazing views.

We also enjoy a much drier climate, if we compare ourselves with the coastal areas further out, such as Lofoten Island. It also means that it is almost always possible to find good skiing conditions in the area.

5. Easy accessibility

Narvik is no further from Oslo in travelling time than Chamonix in the Alps is. If you calculate the travel time by car from Oslo to Trysil and Hemsedal, you will find that Narvik is a shorter flight away from Oslo than many people think.

There are daily flights from Gardermoen to Evenes Airport and the flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The airport bus from Evenes to Narvik takes around 45 minutes.

It is also possible to take the train from Oslo to Narvik. The train goes through Sweden and its last stop is Narvik. As of 13 December 2020, VY operates the trains that go to and from Narvik.
