Snubba Day - Cultural walk, Sami traditions and activities for everyone

This year's event is especially aimed at Sami children and young people, but also offers many experiences for adults. The program combines culture, nature, storytelling traditions and food experiences with activities for the whole family.

On Friday 4 August, you are invited to the Snubba Day with attendance at Snubba village hall at 11 am. The day starts with a cultural walk along the Snubba cultural trail, led by Finn-Steinar Heimly from Snubba grendelag. Along the way, he tells about the gandbjørka, huldra, turf huts and the village's rich Sami history. More information about the cultural trail can be found on the Sámi Parliament's website:

The children's choir Biekkaš from the countryside opens the day with song and joik, including about Stallo. There will also be an opportunity to enjoy coffee and waffles before serving traditional Sami dishes such as ruhppan (blood club) and biđus.

Museum director Thomas Ole Andersen at Várdobáiki Sami Museum takes the audience into the significance of the bear in Sami mythology through the lecture "The bear – the brother of humans". Professor Eli Munkebye will talk about play and learning related to edible plants, before she and Geir Elvebakk Moski invite you to a walk towards Bjørnholla to collect plants and experience nature.
There will also be a draw in this year's low-threshold fishing competition on Snubba- and Holmevann, led by Kai Mathisen. In the lavvo, the day's storytelling tradition ends with Sami fairy tales and true stories from Snubba, facilitated by Moski Reiseliv for children and young people.

The day is rounded off with a concert with Ronald Forså, which offers a varied repertoire and an atmospheric end to the event.
