Kulturgammen at Tennevoll
The Kulturgammen at Tennevoll is first and foremost a landmark and a local gathering point in Lavangen. The building is mainly used for events, but is still worth the trip for those who want to see a distinctive building related to Sami history and cultural heritage in the area.
Lavangen is a Sami language administration municipality, and the work with Sami language and culture has a clear place in the local community. In Kulturgammen, local history, art and traditions are conveyed through exhibitions and events, and the place provides an insight into Sami culture as it is linked to people, language and everyday life in the area.
With a turf roof and a clear architectural shape, Kulturgammen stands out in its surroundings. Even when the building is not open, you can see the exhibits inside through the windows and get an idea of the content conveyed here.
Lavangen is located in the Astafjorden region, where the Sami language center Ástávuona giellagoahtie works to promote Sami language and culture. The cultural turf is also used as an arena for Sami cultural events, among other things related to gákti and Sami traditional knowledge.
Kulturgammen is located by a park in a nice and quiet area, with benches where you can sit outside. Close by is the seafront promenade, and there is also a volleyball court nearby. This makes the place a natural stop for a short break, a walk or a peek into Lavangen's Sami cultural heritage.
