Niingen

Niingen is the spectacular mountain that towers over Bogen in Evenes, known for the pointed peak and the raw view from the top. This is a very demanding mountain hike in steep terrain, with views of Strandvatnet, Bogen, Ofotfjorden and the surrounding mountains.

Niingen is the famous Bogen mountain with the pointed peak, with Lille-Niingen, also called Domningen, right next to it. The mountain rises clearly in the landscape around Strandvatnet and is a trip for mountain-experienced guests who want a steep and physically demanding experience.

The trip is in steep terrain and is very demanding due to steep sections. From the top at 1073 meters above sea level, you get a wide view of Strandvatnet, Bogen, Ofotfjorden and the surrounding mountains. Here, the fjord landscape meets the sharp rock formations in a way that gives a strong sense of Ofoten's raw nature.

The starting point is Røyrholla by Strandvatnet. The hike to the top is approx. 4.2 km, with a stated walking time of approx. 2 hours and 30 minutes. On the way back down, you get an airy and spectacular return experience, but the terrain requires good assessments and safe travel.

The trip can be combined with a night at Niingshytta by Niingsvatnet. The area around Strandvatnet has several opportunities for further trips, and maps, GPS tracks and detailed route descriptions can be found at Evenes Turlag.
